The event will begin promptly at 8 PM. An open mike will follow the first set, during which participating poets, musicians and storytellers will have the opportunity to share their work. As in the past, some interesting guest appearances and collaborations between artists are anticipated. After the Open, Brett will perform his second set.
We encourage all our guests to take advantage of the excellent and affordable cuisine offered by The Classic Quiche Café.. The North Jersey Literary Series is held in the Special Events Dining Room, a unique space with sound qualities unrivaled by any other location. Come early and enjoy a relaxing meal – the CQC quiches are famous, and there are also other wonderful entrees, as well as coffees, teas, & desserts.

Poet and publisher BRETT RUTHERFORD has lived in Weehawken NJ, New York City, and Providence, RI. During his Manhattan years, he founded The Poet’s Press to promote the work of lesser-known but deserving poets. The press is active in print and on-line, with 177 publications to date, and 20 new titles scheduled for 2009 (http://www.poetspress.org/ ). Brett is a poet, novelist, and playwright, with a focus on the Gothic and neo-Romantic. Night Gaunts, a play about horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, was staged in Heidelberg, Germany in 2006, and broadcast as a radio drama in Boston in 2005. His verse play, Carlota, Empress of Mexico, was given a staged reading by The Writers' Circle of Providence in the summer of 2007. His most recent books of poetry are Things Seen in Graveyards (2007) and Doctor Jones and Other Terrors (2008). During a ‘back to school’ adventure, he completed his Master’s Degree in English at the University of Rhode Island in 2007.
