My friends there put on a terrific fun and informative event.
I have attended and participated in this gathering before and encourage you to to the same if you can.
I would love to be there again this year.

This is to inform you that a date of Saturday, April 3, 2004, and commencing at 3 p.m., has been selected for the impending 'H. P. Lovecraft Service of Tribute.' The tribute, which has become something of a Providence tradition likened to a hybrid of a mini Mardi Gras and Hallowe'en, in previous years has always been conducted at the author's final resting (or, perhaps in his case, RESISTING) place in Swan Point Cemetery. However, due to the Swan point Cemetery Management's increasingly stringent enforcement of disallowing picture taking and videotaping within the Cemetery grounds, which I can understand (a "privavy issue"), this year's presentation has been relocated to the grassy island which divides Blackstone Boulvevard, directly across from the main entrance-exit gates of Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, Rhode Island. Following the procedings which will include dramatic readings and enactments of excerpts from Lovecraft's prose and poetry, there will be offered an informal "processional" from that site to the Phillips family plot which contains Lovecraft's grave. This is a walk of approxiamtely six minutes. After that, whoever wishes to continue the festivities is welcome to join us at India Restaurant, right down the road across from the coroner of Hope Street & Blackstone Boulevard.

This tribute is presented annually in recognition of the unique literary contributions of Howard Phillips Lovecraft (B. August 20, 1890 - D. March 15, 1937) as well as his life as a devoted citizen of the city of Providence, where he resided for all but two years of his life, during which period he was married and resided in Brooklyn, New York with his wife Sonia Haft Greene, an attractive Russian immigrant who was seven years his senior. (The marriage dissolved due to Lovecraft's inability to secure a position as a lierary critic, or indeed any steady employment, plus continued pressure from his two aunts in Providence!) Rather than deliver recitations of collected readings and summaries from behind a podium, I've always felt that a more colorful, outdoors presentation would better convey an impression of Lovecraft's imagination, and of what he endeavored to convey via his chosen medium of horror fiction.
