Aloha Project, endless project on spirituality

I am currently 6,000miles from my spiritual home. I have in fact,no claim to Hawaiian ancestry. At best, I am a Happa, Happa Haole. A person of both white and yellow parentage. Infact, my surname is not found in American phonebooks, but it hails from the United Kingdom. I find great liberation in my diversity,my family on each side were nomadic, always hungry for a land that would make them feel at peace. (My father's lineage were soldiers as far back as history) The Polynesians who traveled in canoe like vessels were no different. They were a driven people, the biggest, strongest of their civilization paddled to the most remote island on earth and started life anew. They chose to voyage, face death. They found Hawaii.

Aloha. Aloha does not just mean hello. It is the spirit of love and acceptance. Alo means to "stand in the presence of" and "ha" means to breathe. This explains why people who are born or have lived in Hawaii most of thei lives call white people Haoles. (I am considered Kamaina- aperson who spent the majority of their life or was born on the rock-it means land child) Haole means to be without breathe. The white Christian missionaries did not practice meditative breathing exercises before they prayed. The white colonialists came to bring Christianity to the native population. They were disturbed that Hawaiians did not wear much clothing. They invented mumuus for women and taught men to dress like westerners. They meant to bring uh...decency, but instead they brought shame and guilt. Hawaiians are giant bathers, they were healthy, sturdy and clean. This seemed decadent to the Westerners. The Hawaiians had also never encountered rodents, which the Westerners also brought, and other unfortunate gifts like syphilis, pneumonia, chicken pox and the common cold. In a couple years, the Hawaiian population was quickly reduced by 75% and continued to dwindle . ( We are 7% on Oahu according to the Honolulu Advertiser) The fact that royalty began to marry Westerners made Hawaiians who remained easy converts from a holistic religon that did not subjugate women(although men and women had to eat at separate tables ) and infact exhalted women as creators and viewed homosexual as natural and a third party often used as advisors for couples.
My own study of Hawaiian spirituality was conducted at bus stops in mountain villages, in markets in the fresh air, at cemetries, at potlucks, and at a native Hawaiin Hospital. My experience of being Kama 'aina and not a tourist flavoured my connectedness to the land.
Hawaii is not popularly associated with the gothic subculture. You can not find a London After Midnite album at Tower in Aiea or even in Waikiki. In fact, when I asked a clerk in Aiea if he had any gothic albums he had no idea what I meant . And no one will admit to being or knowing a vampyre. I put in an ad for a meet up and was able to borrow space at Monterey Bay Cannery but I only had one reply in a year. But they are out there....and they are quiet about it. Everyone I ever met has some experience that is paranormal. Understand, these are either native Hawaiians, Japanese, or Asian/White mixes who are kama'aina. Most of these are ghost sightings. They describe them with great clarity. Ghosts are called Obake (oh- bah- kay). We are a culture that honours and is receptive to the dead. We have stores that actually sell things to put on our houses to tell the dead to leave us alone, or to pay them "hell money " for a safe passage. We light incense to send prayers to them...
The Vampyre lifestyler is an oddity here in the tropical heat and relentless sunshine that dries the slugs crossing the rocks into crispy brown pods....We are a subtle culture that likes to blend in...
Born in the most remote part of the earth out of fire and water -all the volcanos are now dormant exept Kilauea on the big isle of Hawaii, which erupts continuously spewing molten lava to the sea and enlarging the islan. The island is growing. It spews fire continuously like an angry dragon, yet it is the most fertile island. Pele lives here, the most powerful godess of fire and volcanos. While no one is sacrificed by specification, Pele often takes people as sacrifices with rockslides. Pele has been blamed in recent times for rolling multiton boulders onto houses. Pele demands respect, and we fear her as Lillith.....
Oahu"the gatheing place" is shrinking. And sinking. I still read the Honolulu Advertisor. The Arizona Monument at Pearl Harbor is sinking as well....It has been heightened and reinforced twice. It is sinking and will be submerged in two years according to the paper. THey will rebuild. I read Thom Hanks has donated to the project....and in Oahu, they are building over Hawaiian grave sites. The new Wal Mart in Waikiki is being protested daily and needs police there to protect it because it was built on a graveyard.....as were Chinatown, Pali Momi Hospital, some apartments, etc. It is considered not only a desecration of the deceased, but it angers the dead. An office building in Honolulu is vacant now... it was built on primeproperty exept it was a native burial ground. An employee of a softwear firm was laid off and came back a few hours later with an automatic weopan and took out 9 co workers. People do not want to even drive by the building!
Hawaii crossects the earths' natural energy grids. I was told this by a Foster Village Resident. "It is a place of energy and growth, look around you."
The officer who guards Kam 3- the haunted hiway with no spead limit is an elderly Hawaiina gentlemen. He is an elder. Infact, you can feel his powerful energy. ahe has no need for a gun. ahe can hypnotize you. He is friendly and smiles, but he leaves you with chickenskin (goosebumps). He is not only a Kahuna, but he is a Satanic witch. He informs me that they are not all evil. Oddly, he knows I am a healer, distrustful, and he sees swords and staves around me. He tells me I fight my nature and I wear makeup to mask myself, and I never married. I put my hand out and take his. "I am sorry about your wife....Kahuna.. (I bow) See you again." This happened between the space Kmart and Sac and Save were located. You can feel power, The person need not credential theirself.....His aura was an an enourmous bright yellow thick band. I felt humbled, like when I was a kid and my mom took me to town and Queen Elizabeth was passing through, waving-my mother pushed me to my knees, and at that moment I felt faint....it was a feeling such as that...

There is an interesing parallel to the chakras that I have noticed looking at maps of Hawaii. I was at the Pearl Ridge Mall Rand McNally store...it no longer exists... talking to a guy who I found peculiar and attractive in a way I can only wonder if I had known him in a past life. He was telling me they had to get rid of a lot of maps because HAWAII WAS NOT EVEN ON THEM!!! Inconceivable to me. Atleast for a second. Hell, we hoard soap, shampoo, spam, bags of rice equal to our weight, and flashlighights incase the shipping industry goes on strike. We produce nothing and live on chaeap wages in a tourist based economy....we live on the most beautiful place on earth. (I cried and gave all my possessions away when I left exept afew outfits and some DVDS,,,my friend said you know you ask for a sign, you got a new job, and you are leaving...you are crazy girl.... this is the growing place and you want to go to a dying place... cause that is what is going to happen to you..."I handed my friend my glock, my sword(everyone I know as a sword,,,,,) and my knives. "You will be back."" "No, I said, I am tired of living in whatever the fuck century this is..." "Ypu will be back. You will see someone off, and come back. humble. "he said.

Mana- the Hawaiian equivalent of self,qi.Ki, prana....It is out there....

Hawaiians see themselves as a trinity. Humakua-the higher consciousness, Uhane-the conscious mind. It has free will. It is like the ego. It predates Freud and Jung....
UUnihipili- akind of gate keeper. Unihipili is th gate keeper and energy exchanger....King of Jungian and Freudian....it predates them by a few Thousand years.

So back to this damn store at Pearl Ridge. I wanted to find out how far I was from Scotland to see a few relations get married. This fellow fianally found a map with Hawaii clearly on it.
There are seven main islands, all lined up in a row like a person sitting. WOW. Like Chakras, all lined up: ! Ni " Hau (forget visiting here, it is private, no electricity..) @2 Kau;a 3 Oahu (most populated, 45 miles around) 4 Moloka'i (hey remember leprosy?) 5 Lana'i 6 Maui & 7 Hawaii- the big island of fire and ice and 17 differnent climactic zones....ski....???/you can ski and see lava flow on the big island. It is populated by cowboys and cattle ranchers...

Aloha and Mahal0 (thank you) to be continued in the future......

Wow, that's very interesting Red Lotus, I remember you saying the Hot Topic stores didnt' sell black (I personally can wear black even in 100 degree weather). I did a report on Hawaii and it's traditions back in elementry school, it's great to learn more about the island, especially from an insider's point of view. I wonder what half-breeds like me are called there, I know there's no outstanding Native American population there, though I did have a friend form Japan move there 2 years ago.... Interesting too is the term "mana" I have heard that from alot of Japanese friends I have, is it possible the islanders adopted the term from the Japanese?

Hawaiin Mysticism

Postby redlotus88 » Thu Dec 23, 2004 12:58 pm

HUNA is the Hawaiian art of psychology and metaphysics rolled into one. Huna means invisible essence...Like aloha, it is not just a belief system, but a way of life. It is the unity of heart and mind, love and power.
It is believed by Hawaiians that a person comes into the world with kukui. Kukui is like a bowl of light that illuminates us, and we share this light with others. HUNA teaches us how to connect with our light and find the true nature of ourselves. Hawaiians call the true nature that lies within a person Aumakua. The true nature is the higher self, the self that understands what its position in the world is,it is like a connection to god, or the oversoul, something like a superego. The Uhane is the free will self, the conscious mind. Hawaiians think the conscious mind is a limited self....and if you ponder that a bit, it makes sense. The Uhane is thinking, judging, very everyday sort of thing. The Unihipili, as I mentioned before, is kind of the gatekeeper. It connects all three minds into one. It operates on a totally subconscious level. This part of the mind is involved in energy exchange. It is also the largest part of the mind, so energy exchanging possibilities are limitless if you become in touch with your huna....
Which takes us to the Mana Jezabel mentioned!!Mana is energy. Mana is not only an ivisible source of energy flowing from person to person, but also through nature-trees and plants and lava all have mana. Infact, words and thoughts can carry mana. Mana can be increased from one source and be transferred to another. Hawaiians practice specific breathing techniques to increase mana.
Later, I will talk about the Shamans of Hawaii. The Kahuna (maale and female) who are the masters of many mtaphysical skills, and they can manipulate the mana of others with capability greater than the average Hawaiian who is aware of their Huna and Mana. The Kahuna
are hyper-awakened!!!!

There are still Shamans in Hawaii today. You would not recognize them. They wear aloha shirts and rubber slippers, they wear dresses and hold jobs. Kahuna are the keepers of the light, that life essence I spoke about, huna, the secret we are all born with. Kahuna master their energy and awareness. In ancient Hawaii, kahuna shared teachings and had initiations . In more recent history begining with the founding of the Hawaiian monarchy, knowledge became secretive, giving the kahuna a power struggle with the system of Kapu (taboo, forbidden) . Western religons discouraged shamanism. It became kapu for two kahunas to socialise in public. The Hawaiians found the rituals of the western priests powerless and haole ( without the breathe of life).Kahuna practice:
the skill of blessing (ho'o maika'i)

the skill of energizing power centers (pikp-piKo), the skill of shifting to another level of awareness, the skill of channeling, of story telling (Ka'ao- to talk story is a hobby of many kama'aina),of dual focused healing, of empowerment, of balancing the body, of tuning into the past, present and future, of energising and healing by using energy fields, they can manifest events and circumstance, they interpret dreams, kahuna are known to shape shift, they have visions and creative dreams, they can heal with symbols and omens. They are masters of working with energy, personal, natural, groups of people's energy-they manster manipulating it like a magician, they continually increase their own personal energy. It is said a kahuna can redirect the flow of lava from a volcano by mental power! Some people I have met from the Big Island told me that a local kahuna they know can attract lightening from clouds and send it baack up to the sky as a ball of fire. (it is as though they can polarise their nervous system?) Also, it is of note that before the missionaries started the kapu system in Hawaii, men and women were seen to have equal power in life. Infact, many female kahuna were known for their intuition. Supression of women was brought from the western world that had a tradition of male domination.
I will talk about chants and hula at a later date.
