Participation Levels
A full understanding of this is important for those of you who may be interested in taking the next step.

Dedicants:
House of the Dreaming Dedicants are encouraged to actively participate in the House of the Dreaming Interest discussion forum. A variety of opportunities will be offered to dedicants to demonstrate their personal level of distinction: Discussion topics, assignments, research, projects, coordinating socials, special invitations to house-wide/community-wide events, to even the solicitation of personal opinions concerning inner-circle matters where the application of House philosophies come into play… All of these are opportunities for recognition, participation, interaction and growth. Any Dedicant who is unable to dedicate time toward House business for the duration of three consecutive months, will automatically lose Dedicant status (individual is welcome to pursue full membership with our House after a minimum period of six months by following the normal dedication procedure).

Initiates:
House of the Dreaming Initiates are not required nor expected to actively participate in any other forum, e-group, site, or administer to dedicants, guest or community issues. They are merely encouraged to actively participate in the House of the Dreaming Inner Circle discussion forum and maintain periodic contact with the family. HotD initiates have a full plate. They are expected to familiarize themselves with our community, come to terms with who they are, test the philosophies of Our House, as well as adjust to a progressive mentorship (when applicable). Initiates are encouraged to attend all social Household functions and are expected to actively participate in all Dreaming Parlors. But Initiates have also a huge project to complete – the Dream Book – a collections of perspectives, experiences and awarenesses; this book is needed to fulfill their requirement toward ascension to Calmaeship. Any extra work to the house offered by the initiate is extra credit and must be regarded by all in that light. It is usually during this time that Initiates will fully come to terms with the Veil of the Waking Dream and understand the path of our family; sometimes and despite our careful consideration we find that our although our ties of kinship are strong, our philosophies diverge. Any full member who is unable to contribute toward Family business may announce a leave of absence, or should there be irresolvable issues, request resignation. We do not view this as a ‘bad thing’, it is simply part of our selection and growth process. Keep in mind that Our Family is not for everyone, as we expect a very strict code of conduct and a dynamic focus on self-development.

Ordeals
Any ordeals or tests of character can be individually issued by the Elders of our Household as pre-qualifiers for rites of passage like Initiation, Calmaeship and Elderhood. You will not be notified of these tests, more often than not such will present themselves as real-life-situations where you must utilize House Philosophies demonstrating your loyalty for the family, respect and integrity.

If you are a member of this forum, it does not mean that you are a member of our Family. Generally, if you are a member of this forum you are a guest and friend to our family. Don’t be confused, and don’t tell people this is Your House or aspire to represent HotD interests. However well intentioned, this is certainly inappropriate.

If you want to become a full member of our family, you must demonstrate interest and let us know, at that point we will let you know what the next step is.

If you are a Dedicant to our Family, you are still not a member of our family, you are a pledge…meaning you promised allegiance but have not yet been accepted. This dedication period equates to an engagement period…you are not married to the house yet… Please do not start telling people you are a member, such misrepresentations are inappropriate.

Dedicants are not required to be submissive to the members of our family, only to demonstrate proper respect, as fellow community members. No house member should ‘demand’ unwelcome favors from Dedicants. Should Dedicants feel impinged on by any member of our family, they are advised to contact any Elder or Calmae of our House. Such coercing is inappropriate.

In our family, if you are an Initiate, Calmae or Elder, you are considered a Full Member. As a member you can represent the whole of the family - but only with Family Endorsement and Consent, otherwise you represent yourself and your interests only. Any such “I’ll take it upon myself to speak for the Family” misrepresentations are inappropriate.

Initiates of our family cannot be officially recognized as mentors, teachers, Adra, or Sires. Any such misrepresentation is inappropriate.

While from time to time we may solicit the help from the community to add to our count of Ramkht, Mradu, Kitra or Kitral…if you have not been officially recognized as a member of our house, no-matter how well intentioned, you cannot speak on our behalf nor represent yourself as part of our Family. Such would be an inappropriate misrepresentation.

If you are asked if you are a member of our family… you better know the answer. Please do not embarrass us by saying you do not know. It is simple… you are either initiated as a member…or you are not a member at all. Let’s avoid future confusions on this matter.

Black Swans and Kitral are deeply loved and respected by House of the Dreaming. Swans and Kitral are not required to formalize exclusive allegiance to our family but may choose to do so. If any Black Swans or Kitral would like to celebrate such an allegiance to our Family, please contact me or the house member closest to you. We’d love to recognize and celebrate you as a exclusive part of our family.

* Although House of the Dreaming encourages member participation in other esoteric organizations including educational, social, spiritual and magical orders, we cannot accept members of houses, covens, or other family-like organizations.

There is no criteria to be met before applying for Membership with HotD.

We recommend that you be an active participant on the discussion forum and that you familiarize yourself with HotD and our membership.

When we say:"Before becoming a Full Member, we require that you interact and meet the Family Members on line, and that you meet the majority of the Family in person ..." this is NOT before you apply for membership, but while you are a Dedicant waiting for Acceptance to be a Full Member.


So... to break it down even further these are the Recommended steps:

1. Get to know HotD and HotD members.

2. Be active on the forum & decide if HotD is for you.

3. Write your Dedication statement and send it to me, be prepared to clarify, respond to questions, reword or provide extra info.

4. Be accepted (or declined) as a Dedicant.

5. Continue to get to know HotD Membership and processes... Meet in-person as much of the membership as possible. We travel too, so invite us over. As we get to know you, you get to know us. Decide if we are a mutual match.

6. Provide Service to HotD by means of a Dedicant Project.

7. Be accepted (or declined) as a Full Member of our Family.

8. Provide needed info and prepare for Initiation.

9. Be Initiated as a Full Member.

10. Become an official Member of our Family.
