Biography

As a student of Life and the Universe, Elkeyai wears many hats with enthusiasm. Among her favorites are vampire-witch, intuitive, Cenobite, teacher, mother, Queen Crimson, writer, poet, hugger of trees and the moon, ukulele player, and a fez.

Elkeyai LaRose was born and raised in New Jersey and grew up on a balanced diet of high fantasy and classic rock. Her parents (and The X Files) encouraged her innate weirdness and taught her to question everything. Raised casually Catholic, Elkeyai insisted on freedom and exploration, and so, as a teenager, she waded into the deep mystic arts and embarked on her life-long Fool’s quest for meaning and answers. She has revealed her identity as a Witch in a Catholic confessional no less than 3 times only to be met not with hellfire, but with acknowledgement of the strega and prayers. So far, disappointingly, she has yet to be turned to ash on hallowed grounds. Somehow she forges forth.

At 8, Elkeyai wrote her first short story in an attempt to explain the lies of her elders - namely the Easter bunny. At 10, she wrote her first serious poem. At 13, her first piece of irreverent fiction. At 15, she received her first A++ for a book report on a book she had not read. Clearly, Elkeyai possesses a natural talent in the art of bullshit and has since embraced this 21st century skill.

Mostly though, Elkeyai rarely knows what the fuck she’s doing and she does it with gusto, accidentally opening portals and manifesting all the things she needs but does not want. Before attending her first Iron Garden gathering in winter of 2021, she confidently declared that she was NOT a joiner. Which directly resulted in her initiation into House of the Dreaming.

Elkeyai’s mission on this living rock spinning through space, is to leave all she meets feeling a little more confused and a lot more loved. She lives by the creed, “Love to all. Peace to all. No exceptions.” She is both especially challenged and inspired to walk this path daily with the teenage students that shamble into her English/Creative Writing classroom expecting an education but instead get hit with unconditional acceptance and respect.

Elkeyai currently serves as the Resident Cenobite for The Iron Garden, in charge of developing and curating the spiritual, ritual, and ceremonial dimensions of their monthly gatherings. Never one to be trapped in a broom closet, she has been on her eclectic pagan path for over 20 years. Presently, she offers tarot and intuitive readings. From weddings to baby blessings to house clearings to divorce ceremonies, Elkeyai also produces and performs customized rituals, ceremonies, and blessings. Creativity is the torch that guides her way, and sacred play is her sacred work.

Elkeyai is grateful to have found House of the Dreaming in the waking world. Down a meandering path that began with Lilith, she comes to you a witch called to awaken to the vampiric and succubine dimensions of her nature. With her passion for passion and all things sensual, her awe of the beauty life has to offer (especially through art, poetry, stories, song, and whirling, twirling & spinning), her intense and bubbly enthusiasm, her penchant for unconditional acceptance and commitment to meeting mortals where their at, she naturally chose the path of the Kitra. She looks forward to serving as Kitra for House of the Dreaming and diving ever more deeply into the mystery. Simply, she’s glad to have finally come home.

My Favorite Quote

"Beneath all that cool psuedo-academic hogwash lurked a very passionate man who knew how important it was to say "fuck" now and then, and say it loud too, relish its syllabic sweetness, its immigrant pride, a great American epic word really, starting at the lower lip, often the very front of the lower lip, before racing all the way to the back of the throat, where it finishes with a great blast, the concussive force of the K catching up then with the hush of the F already on its way, thus loading it with plenty of offense and edge and certainly ambiguity. FUCK. A great by-the-bootstrap prayer or curse if you prefer, depending on how you look at it, or use it, suited perfectly for hurling at the skies or at the world, or sometimes, if said just right, for uttering with enough love and fire, the woman beside you melts inside herself, immersed in all that word-heat."
