I can not seem to make links easy to use, sorry, when I was in in college only the pentagon had computers, lol. Any way, as if all of Hawaii was not one giant military base as it were, the government wants to tear down preserved lands, quite a sizeable portion of land larger than the area of Honolulu in a few locations on Oahu and use thes as Stryker tank training grounds. Already most of Oahu is occupied as training grounds and bases for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard,if it were not for Waikiki, Oahu would be completely ruined as one giant bases. Lets face it, what is left are locals being driven away because they can not afford to live there, and tourists at the beach, not to mention that a lot of the tourists are just soldiers looking for some fun and prostitutes and a place to get drunk in. There is an island off the coast of Oahu which you will not see on a map, but I can see from the mountains. It is called Target Island. The US government has taken a onece lush, small private island, bought it, and regularly bombs it. Nothing can live or grow there. You can't even take a boat there because it is pretty much a big heap of debris, and much of it is radioactive. You think of Hawaii as some sort of paradise?Its all military bases and government buildings once you leave the tourist areas. Hawaii was not made a state to rescue its economy. It was made a state to conveniently be the largest military instillation in the world to be ready for wars in the far East.There has always been resentment toward the US for subjugating the land.
My point is we already have too much government in our lives. Instead of bombing the living fuck out of a place many Pacific Islanders call home, rape the land and ruin the economy for the locals, why not set up military clinics for the 50,000 homeless and displaced people living in parks. There is not even enough housing for all these militaty people on base. The government puts them up free of charge in 2 bedroom condominiums. That is a several grand a month allowance just on housing. I know groups of families-like 8 or 10 working people living in places that size.The military needs to be trimmed budget wise. We could be spending that money rehabilitating junkies or the mentally ill, or getting people back to work. Not starting wars just because we disagree with a government half way round the world. Sorry for ranting. Someone sent me this link this morning, and ordinarilly, if I were home, I'd be downtown protesting.
