Samhain Season 2014
Event Recap for House of the Dreaming Hudson Clutch
Our official outings began Saturday, October 25. Miss LaRue and I attended the North Jersey Halloween/Spiritual Pride Fair. We met with Finna who was volunteering to help with the event and enjoyed several speakers on herbs, oils and the paranormal, plus music by the bands Imbolg & Night Gallery! It was a day well spent amidst the charming fall foliage, talented craftspeople and like minded friends.
That same evening Wulfsunus, Mis LaRue and I also attended The North Jersey Literary Series presentation with American Poet Brett Rutherford Hosted by our friends Paul Nash and Denise LaNeve. Mr. Rutherford invited me to do a cold reading of his new Poem "Young Girl's Prayer to Eos" (it was quite an honor to enbody Medea!), Wulfsunus also participated in the Open Mic with some of his best seasonal pieces. We enjoyed a lovely evening at Classic Quiche Café with delightful edibles for both the pallet and the spirit.
On Sunday, October 26 HotD joins the NJ Chapter of Bloodlines International to watch Dracula Untold. It was a smaller group than expected and... perhaps the movie too could have been a bit more profound, but there were some great thrilling moments and plenty of bats to go around! Thank you Sarah, Torrin, Asif, Miss LaRue and Herr Wulfsunus for joining me!
During the rather harried week, Miss LaRue and I did manage to meander thru Palisades Interstate Park among nature and spend some quality time at the Museum of Natural History in NYC. We dedicated special attention to the Spider Exhibit and to the permanent Cultural Halls exhibitions namely the pacific tribes and their sorcery. Of note was a small statue I believe you all would appreciate, of a woman in ceremonial attire nursing an undetermined animal (canine, feline or even a pig). I'm hoping Miss LaRue may post a picture
On Thursday, October 30th we celebrated Mischief Night with Ritual, Victuals and Libations with Family and Friends. 12 of us Celebrated Mischief, Freedom and New Beginnings with an array of libations brought forth by all participants, a lovely meal was prepared by Miss LaRue, a Ritual Space forged by Herr Wulfsunus, Blackwolf and Finna, and a working collaboratively written by Hesperus and I. BethAthena, Asif, Rick Wells, Daniella, Rhea and Alex joined Herr Wulfsunus, Blackwolf, Finna, Miss LaRue, Hesperus and I to let go of what binds us to mediocrity and free our hearts, lighten our spirit, so that we may reach our dream potential as we called upon Ancients and the Forces of Nature that surrounded us. At the closing of the ritual we had a special toast to hone in the energy of all of us present, as well as our Dreaming Family who could not be with us. May you never thirst! I hope all in attendance will enjoy the small token of our thank you and that thru it you may recall our night together and our Family with warmth and fondness. Thank you all for joining us! And thank you Khan, Nyx, Lady Sequanna, and Kate for calling in.
Finally Samhain proper arrived on Friday, October 31st! After the obligatory Trik'o'treating, Miss LaRue´s inimitable artistic talents turned me into a very green Orion Slave Girl! Together with Hesperus, Gen Rossi, Finna and Herr Wulfsunus we attended the 1980s Thriller Halloween Bash at QXT´s! The Hall was packed with familiar and unrecognizable faces but I found a place to dance on the platform and on the stage. Noone can stop and Orion Slave Girl with a purpose. Wulfsunus was Captain Pike (which noone recognized lol) and Finna was a beautiful Victorian Vampire! We did not enter the Costume Contest, but the Cash Prize winners were a Female Loki with a splendid leather costume and metal headdress, and a SteamPunk Professor, both dressed in amazing detail! We finally arrived home at about 4AM with great big smiles and forever memories
Saturday it was a slow rainy day. We all Missed Miss LaRue´s warmth and edibles as she flew back home. We decided to head to the Monster Golf Arcade in Paramus. Hesperus was the mini-golf champion! Wulfunus and I struggled to keep up with him lol This guy is amazing with his stick!!
Sunday Gen Rossi, Hesperus and I spend the afternoon strolling about the Metropolitan Musum of Art's Cloisters. So much culture, art and intricate detail – We spent some time with the Unicorn Tapestries and in the Treasury. And look! Pomegranates everywhere! It was a pretty cold day, too cold to really enjoy the gardens, unfortunately.
That evening, Hesperus and I joined Asif at the Museum of Interesting Things Secret Speakeasy, where we discovered movies and recordings of the early 1920´s with Denny Daniels our animated host! His amazing collection of gadgets, inventions and technological marvels of the early 20th century offered all of us the opportunity to touch the past. Afterward, the night was still young and Asif escorted us as we bar-hopped thru Soho. Shade and the Keybar were atmospheric and friendly stops. Thank you Asif for showing us around!
Pictures are coming soon!
